Head Consultant of QR Laboratory Scientific Team

Dr Vassilis G Gorgoulis

MD, PhD, Professor-Director

Dr. Gorgoulis is currently Professor and Director of the Department of Histology–Embryology, Faculty of Medicine, National Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece (www.gorgoulis.gr).

He is also elected Chair and Professor of Clinical and Molecular Pathology, Medical School, University of Dundee; Adjunct Professor at the Biomedical Research Foundation, Academy of Athens; Honorary Professor at the Institute of Cancer Sciences, University of Manchester, UK; Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Surrey, UK; and an elected European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) member.

Main research interests include: Mechanisms leading to genomic instability; The role of the DNA damage response network as an anti-tumor barrier (eliciting apoptosis or senescence) and mechanisms leading to escape from these barriers; Development of new compounds and methods to detect senescent cells with precision; The role of the replication licensing machinery in cancer progression; Development of machine learning algorithms to predict biological/drug responses.

Demetris Vassilakos

BSc, Msc, PhD, Scientific Officer, Head of Production

His research focuses on the application of molecular biology and monoclonal antibodies on health. He was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship by the Medical Research Council (UK) to study oncogene expression in tumorigenesis as well as a fellowship by Stavros Niarchos Foundation to develop an antibody diagnostic test for the early diagnosis of ovarian cancer.

He has been involved in the development of a novel rapid test for the accurate diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 2019 coronavirus, in collaboration with Prof Gorgoulis’ Lab in the Medical School of the National University of Athens.

He has previously acted as a product development consultant for a private biotechnology company in Greece and as the scientist in charge for the molecular biology department of Mikroskopisi Diagnostic Labs, a private clinical practice specializing in molecular biology tests for gynecological cancers.
QR scientific team

The team comprises of three senior scientists and one research scientist with extensive experience in monoclonal antibody generation, analysis and characterization such as immunoassays, immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, immunofluorescence and flow cytometry.

QR’s scientific team exhibits a long track record of experience in the development, generation, purification and characterization of monoclonal antibodies.
Our innovative approach to hybridoma technology has enabled the efficient production of highly specific antibodies.
